There is a sea of information on the web and sometimes a good article is necessary to clarify many misconceptions and information promoted that many times is not completely accurate. That is totally false. A properly installed shower that is maintained properly should not need to be regrouted for many years possibly not even the entire life of the shower. The need to regrout arises when one of these 2 things did not happen and at that point a professional grout repair service company should be able to identify what happened and why there is a need to regrout and what steps are necessary to make sure that the problem in this shower does not arise again. Myth # 2 Caulk gets moldy and either needs to be replaced annually or grout is a better alternative or only mold resistant caulk will work. That is totally false. No matter how good quality caulk is if water gets behind it and trapped it will get moldy ! If water does not get behind it and the caulk is suitable for a shower like a good brand of 100% silicone caulk it should last for many years.
