Princeton NJ Grout Color Changing and Staining Services

Grout Color can be changed by staining the existing grout. Dark tile flooring is very popular nowadays.  Dark brown, gray or charcoal porcelain tiles are very common for new kitchen flooring. Wood look tiles that come in various size planks are among the most popular of all tile floor types today. Generally dark grout to blend with the dark tiles is installed. However fairly common to the dismay of the homeowner is a discoloration or lightening of the grout color.  This can really change the look of the floor tiles for the worse. There are a number of reasons  why the grout color is not correct. In this article we will focus on one of the most common reasons which is construction dust. White dust that comes from construction like sheet rock can accumulate in the air and on the floor during construction. Since generally grout is absorbent especially sanded grout the color from the white dust can bleed in to the grout and ruin the dark color. Especially new grout that is wet can  absorb light colored dust from construction. When a color actually bleeds in to the grout it is nearly impossible to clean it out.  Grout Works of Central NJ in addition to specializing in cleaning grout has a unique technique to actually ensure that all the grout has a uniform color and that the color matches  the tile as it was supposed to. Not only that, even if you mistakenly chose the wrong grout color we can generally change and customize the grout colors to exactly the color you wish. So whether you chose the wrong color grout or...

Limestone,Travertine Refinishing & Marble Polishing in Colts Neck NJ

Our craftsmen provide Professional Diamond Honing and polishing services which is necessary periodically to maintain Marble, Travertine & Limestone. Over time the finish of natural stone can dull or become hazy and cloudy perhaps even dirty looking. Stains, scratches, marks and etches can ruin the appearance of the stone floor or surface. Whether a floor, shower, countertop or vanity they all are subjected to use and wear and tear. Usage of cleaning products that are compatible with natural stone is very important. Just because a product is all natural or “green” does not mean it is suitable for marble, limestone or travertine. In fact vinegar is extremely harmful for use on calcite stones such as marble, limestone and travertine They also require professional refinishing occasionally by a Professional Natural Stone Restoration company since these stones are soft and scratch easily. The first step in professional restoration is to hone the stone with diamonds to remove scratches and marks.   After that the stone could be polished with polishing compounds just like the factory to produce a shine from the stone itself.  Some stones look nicer unpolished with a more natural matted look which is called a “honed finish” Stones like travertine and limestone and sometimes marble as well will be in a honed finish as opposed to a polish finish. We offer to polish or hone the stone as well as various customized finishes like a muted polish or a high hone where there is a subtle shine. Many of our customers ask to have their stone sealed. However generally they do not realize the limitations of a sealer. In fact a sealer only...

Sealing Grout Truth or Myth

The question we get asked a lot is if grout sealing is recommended. We get asked this question in a number of ways. 1. Does grout need to be sealed ? 2. Why should grout be sealed ? 3. What does a grout seal do ? 4. What should be used to seal grout ? 5. My friend told me she had her grout sealed and it did not work ? 6. How often should grout be resealed ? 7. I read online conflicting things about the effectiveness of sealing grout ? I will answer each question one by one. 1. Grout does not NEED to be sealed but it is recommended. 2. Grout should be sealed to prevent absorbtion. This will make it easier to keep clean since it will not get stained as easily from spills or dirty mop water. It also can prolong the life of the grout especially in a wet environment like a shower where a seal will allow little to no water to penetrate. 3. A seal prevents or minimizes absorbancy of liquids into the grout which is naturally porous. 4. There are many sealers available. We find that a color seal is the ultimate in regards to grout sealing and stain prevention. There are penetrating sealers that are used for grout. The better quality ones are more expensive and it must be applied properly to provide any effectiveness. 5. Many times sealers are poor quality or the application method was not right and therefore many times a grout seal will not be effective. 6. If you find that the grout is absorbing...

Princeton NJ Carrara Marble Polishing & Limestone Refinishing Service

This past week we went to Princeton NJ to service various stone surfaces. This home had a bathroom with marble vanity. In addition there was some light granite counters, honed limestone as well as a beautiful marble island in the kitchen that was sold as quartzite but in reality was really marble. We sealed the limestone and granite and polished the marble. The main concern was the round etch mark prominently seen on the marble island. Wine had spilled on it and the bottom of the cup made the mark from the wine. The home owner tried to wipe it up immediately to no avail. They tried various cleaning products and rough brushes to attempt to remove it. They even lightly sanded it. They just made it worse by trying various diy methods they probably read somewhere online…The proper way to restore it is to use wet diamonds in a progression of grits and to use a polishing compound to produce a high shine just liked the original factory finish. Sometimes a good powder polish can restore marble and remove the etch mark without diamonds. In this case (see picture) we were able to remove the mark without diamonds just by polishing the marble. Many people think these marks are stains. The reality is they are not stains rather an etch or dulling of the marble’s finish. Stain removal kits will not remove this rather it requires professional marble restoration to restore the original finish. Finally we polished two cararra marble vanity tops in the bathrooms and did some caulk repair and left after a full day of work. Check out...

Long Beach Island Professional Tile & Grout Cleaning & Sealing Service

Grout Works of Central NJ is the premier local provider of professional tile and grout makeovers. Tile and Grout Cleaning is our specialty and we can make your tile floor look brand new in just one day. Not only that we can also seal your grout as well. Why does grout get so dirty and black and generally the tiles are clean?  Grout lines are generally  lower than the tiles. Due to this dirt can get stuck in it. While washing a tile floor in your kitchen, foyer or bathroom you may not even clean the grout at all. Even worse,  you may be pushing the dirt from the tile floor into the grout lines. But it really goes further than that. Once dirt collects on the grout it will not remain on the surface. Grout is porous and will absorb the dirt and filth fairly quickly. Then you are left with stained grout. It is much more difficult to clean stained grout and it loses that clean fresh new look. The solution is two fold. First of all if you seal your grout properly it will not stain as easily or as bad. with a Grout Works Color Seal it will not stain at all as nothing will actually absorb in to the grout rather just sit on top.  Second of all you must clean the tile floor in a proper fashion. In future posts we will discuss the proper method for cleaning tile and grout properly. Click here to check out our gallery.
